Introducing Designumentary

Have an idea? “Don’t talk, just do sh*T”. We always say that is the nclud way, but the reality is, that is the Alex Giron way — being a co-founder of nclud he has influenced that methodology and thus shaped our “agency culture”. Ideas are a dime-a-dozen, it is the execution and follow-through that has value, purpose and meaning.

Last night Alex spoke to a large group of Washington, D.C.‘s best and brightest at Refresh-DC. His focus was on “passion” — it is what drives the follow-through to take an idea and make it into a successful website. Alex never tries to position himself as an authority on the topic; but his passion, experience and work have without a doubt done that for him.

Alex’s presentation takes you from concept inception, through the branding and design process all-the-way through the development and deployment of an idea. Alex truly practices what he preaches and his presentation actually shows the evolution of our latest project built on passion; “Designumentary“.

Designumentary is a video based community site focused on all aspects of design; from information design to visual design to technical design. It is a collage of video interviews of the individual talent driving, shaping and moving this industry. Designumentary is for anyone who loves and is passionate about design and has a few things to say on the topic.

There are still a few more interviews to be conducted before we open up the site to the public — be patient (hopefully its only another week).

Alex’s slides from his presentation are available online at:

Great presentation last night. Thanks, for the inspiration to get me back working on my own projects.

While looking at the slides I noticed that the slide about FONT (slide 9) has the font manager name misspelled. You have it spelled “Linotyope FontExplorer X” (extra “O” in type) and I believe it should be “Linotype FontExplorer X”.

    thanks,

Great topic, nice presentation – thanks for sharing. Just curious, with designumentary – how long did it take form concept to actual launch?

@Mike L. The short answer is less than hours (and that was the 48 hours prior to his presentation — so add that to mix; helps explain the typo, thanks @John for the heads up).

We’ve been toying with the idea for about month and we had purchased a video camera and a domain shortly after. However, Alex finally said, “lets just do it” and he fleshed out the concept, shot the first interview, designed the brand and the site, edited the the video, built the site and integrated into the CMS all in less than 48 hours.

The big take-away here is that a lot of us have really great ideas and we noticed that we often spend more time deciding if we should pursue the idea than it takes to actually just bring it life.
